Do I require anything else to be used with a fleece nappy cover soaker?

The fleece cover, use as a nappy cover, again there has been an increase awareness that many customers prefers using these rather than using nappies that consists of PUL materials. There is something to do with the temperature in the air and humidity that makes them work and dry fast like magic! Fleece is waterproof and yet breathable allowing the air to circulate and allowing moisture to evaporate. Fleece soakers can also help to reduce nappy rash because of the breathability qualities, whereas a PUL wrap contains wetness inside fleece allows it to evaporate, customers who have used fleece soakers over their babies nappies have told Part Baby that the nappy in the morning is much dryer than it is in a PUL wrap.

However, with fleece soakers though they are not suitable for sitting for long periods such as in the car or pram on a long journey somewhere, as the compression from bottom to nappy can squeeze wetness out like a sponge.

GreenPomelo would recommend using fleece cover to anyone who are practising E.C.'ing with their little ones would be a good choice to go about it.

Q: The bamboo inserts for at night- do I just pop those in the pocket too or keep them on the outside? between the pocket and the baby?

Yes, you would need to pop the bamboo inserts into the pockets, as the pocket is a "stay-dry" designed type. This means that the liquid will go through and is absorbed by the pad, while the nappy pocket micro-fibre layer can stay dry a while longer.

Q: inside the nappy, the care label says "fasten onto baby with hook and loop". Do I need something for this?

No, you don't need anything for this. It is just another manufacturer way for saying "fasten onto baby with velcro or snaps"

Q: when washing, if they're not covered in poo, should I take the inserts out before putting the wash on?

It is recommended that you would need to take the inserts out to give it a full clean.

Q: The velcro- it says they tie back to stop snagging in the wash... does this mean I just roll them down to cover the velcro strips with the top of the nappy or am I missing something?

Open up the nappy and lay flat with the inside facing you. On top of the nappy wings, there are two small square velcro strips inside the nappies. Fold the velcro wings inside, so it sticks to the square velcros inside. This prevents snaggings.

Q: I'm going to pop them all in the wash together a couple of times before using them to increase absorption. Will the colours run?

The colour of the nappy should not run and we don't have any report that it does that. All can go into the same cycle.

You should use a bit less washing powder/ liquid than usual as it will create leave less powder residue on nappy so less chance of leakage.

Which soap you should use?

You can use any normal Non-Bio washing powder/ liquid.

At the moment we are using products from: http://www.homescents.co.uk/ and it seems to be doing it's job.

You can also use products like: Ecover, Soap-nuts, Eco-balls, Potions, Bi Carbonate of soda to remove those stubborn stains, & smells.

Q: Aren't cloth nappies bulky?

Some cloth nappies are bulky. That's usually fine, just means may need to wear larger trousers. However, find out if baby was premature. If s/he was they shouldn't wear a nappy that is bulky between the legs so one which works with thin micro-fibre pad is best. (source: RNfL)

Q: Aren't babies uncomfortable in wet nappies?

Don't forget most babies used to wear cotton nappies all the time. It does make them more aware. If you do change your baby more frequently because your child is very aware of dampness it will probably mean your child will be out of nappies earlier. (source: RNfL)

Q: Is washing at low temperatures hygienic?

It's not necessary to wash at high temperatures unless your child chews the nappy. But do be vigilant and your nose is the best guide to whether the nappy is clean. (source: RNfL)
